Newsletter 16th September 2022

From the Principal September 12th 2022

Can you believe that we have come to the end of another term. It certainly feels like it has been a big term.

The highlight this term has most certainly been the 2022 Hester Hornbrook Formal.  A wonderful event which saw our staff and students dress up, enjoy a little luxury and lots of music and dancing.  I thank ever so much the SALP team and our staff who supported this event.

As we head into the holiday period we begin planning for the 2023 school year.  Our staff a very busy planning for the new Vocational Pathways Certificate and the VCE Vocational Major.  We will also be preparing to open our new South Melbourne Campus. There are so many new and great things underway at HHA.

As the term draws to a close we celebrate the educational success of many of our students.  We have several students who are graduating and moving to new pathways, we wish then success with their new challenges.

We also look to you our parent/carers for feedback and advice at this time of the year. I hope that you can take the time to complete our Parents/Carers Survey, please use the link https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/GYKZZ78 or make use of the QR code below.  We look forward to your feedback.

This term we farewell Ruth Way who has been at our Prahran campus, we wish you well and thank you for everything that you have done for our students at Prahran.

I ask that you stay safe over the holiday period, rest up, do something special for yourself and we will see you ready to go for the last leg of 2022.  Our big event in Term 4 is our End of year celebration, I look forward to seeing you at this on Thursday 8th December.

Please don’t forget our Student Progress Meetings begin on Tuesday 4th October. A reminder to ensure that if you have not already, please book your meeting with the classroom youth worker as soon as possible.

2022 Prahran Open Day

Prahran Campus opened their gates to the community on 23rd of July morning.
We welcomed everyone with freshly brewed coffee and some BBQ as they entered our campus for the tour. Followed by a face paint session by our very talented Young Parents' team. Few of our current students even shared their HHA journey as they gave a tour of the campus.

Eloise Wellings at Hester

Sunshine Campus had an exciting Wednesday this week!!

Eloise Wellings, four-time Commonwealth Games and two-time Olympic Games representative, along with Rory Darkins, Positive Psychology Researcher and Mental Skills Coach to Athletes, visited our HHA Sunshine campus.

Eloise shared her athletic story and how persistence, and resilience played a role to achieve her goals. Rory shared tips about training professional athletes and how some growth strategies our students can use in their daily lives.

Big (LEGO) Housing Build at Parliament Steps

Raising awareness on youth homelessness has been a big focus among our young people and they make sure to show their support!! Yesterday our young people participated in the Big (LEGO) Housing Build at Parliament Steps, to keep decision-makers focused on the need for housing for young people.

Wear It Purple Day!!

It's Wear it Purple Day!!
Students across HHA have participated in activities this week to foster supportive, safe, empowering and inclusive environments for LGBTIQ+ young people. Jacob, an Intermediate student at our Sunshine campus, has utilized their Personal Development Project to create resources and activities for students to engage with. Jacob created a presentation for all classrooms to deliver to understand what the day means, created wristbands for all students and staff to wear. He also created a banner for students to contribute to and show their support. A big congratulations to Jacob on an outstanding project.
