Update on our response to COVID-19

COVID19 latest news update 9 July 2020

As the coronavirus pandemic continues, it is affecting the lives of so many of us in ways we never imagined. Lives and countless jobs have been lost and many are facing eviction from their homes. People living with disability are unable to shop for food and essential items, people with life-limiting illness are unable to spend time with their loved ones; and young people who are experiencing homelessness are unable to self-isolate because they don’t have a safe place to call home.

MCM and The Hester Hornbrook Academy remain committed now more than ever to working alongside our most at risk clients in homelessness, education, palliative care, disability, residential care and family service programs, to ensure we continue to provide essential services based on government directives and for the safety of our community.

MCM and The Hester Hornbrook Academy are actively responding to a rapidly evolving environment. Some measures we’ve already taken include:

  • Introduced a special leave policy that ensures all staff, including casuals, can access two weeks paid leave for COVID-19 related absence.
  • Reinforcing hygiene protocols.
  • Visitor restriction to some sites.
  • Changes or cancellations of non-essential physical meetings, excursions and events.
  • Reducing personal contact in the delivery of some of our services to comply with the latest government health recommendations.
  • Advising staff to following all Victorian government directives and recommendations outside of work including downloading the COVIDSafe app.
