Respectful Relationships Education

Hester Hornbrook Academy is committed to implementing a whole-school approach to Respectful Relationships Education. We strongly believe that everyone in our school community has the opportunity to lead, influence and contribute to an inclusive culture where all people feel respected, safe and valued both within our school and beyond.

Hester Hornbrook Academy strongly believes together we can all promote and model respectful attitudes and behaviours with the aim of building healthy relationships, resilience and confidence.

Hester Hornbrook Academy recognises educating our school community on issues stemming from gender inequality will generate lasting changes in attitudes and behaviours, and reduce gender-based violence towards women and people who are part of diverse, marginalised genders.

As part of this commitment, we will strive to:

  • Actively promote gender diversity and speak out against gender-based violence towards women and people who are part of diverse, marginalised genders in our school and wider community.

  • Provide professional learning to all staff around the promotion of respectful relationships and gender diversity, prevention of gender-based violence towards women and people who are part of diverse, marginalised genders and Respectful Relationships curriculum.

  • Undertake a thorough assessment and planning process to identify gaps and limitations in existing culture, policies and practices in gender diversity.

  • Create mechanisms for staff feedback on gender diversity in the workplace.

  • Identify, resource and implement key actions to promote gender diversity and prevent gender-based violence towards women and people who are part of diverse, marginalised genders.

  • Engage with external experts for advice and support in promoting gender diversity and respectful relationships among staff and students.

  • Build partnerships with expert family violence services to increase school capacity to respond to students and staff who experience, witness, or perpetrate gender-based violence towards women and people who are part of diverse, marginalised genders.
