School Lawyer Program

WEstJustice and Inner Melbourne Community Legal (IMCL) lawyers facilitate our school lawyer program. We have three school lawyers that work across our four campuses. Each lawyer is assigned to a specific campus, to ensure consistency of care for our young people. As our school lawyers attend our campuses, young people can seek face to face support on either a weekly or fortnightly basis. Our school lawyers can provide legal advice, case work, including court representation and community legal education to our young people.

The lawyer can provide advice and casework to students across a broad range of legal issues including:

  Family law •  Fines

Family violence / Intervention Orders •  Employment

•  Criminal Law •  Centrelink

•  Issues with police •  Victims of Crime Assistance

•  Tenancy / Housing •  Consumer complaints

•  Issues with transport officers •  Discrimination

•  Debts •  Migration law

Advice can also be provided in the following areas:

•  Child protection

•  Child support

•  Guardianship/Administration Orders

When legal issue falls outside either IMCL or WEstJustice’s legal service guidelines preliminary advice will be provided and a warm referral made to a specialist service.
